Does anyone out there have any experience with the Alaska 44 yachts. I believe they were built by Oege Karbing (Denmark) but I am having a real hassle trying to find out more. Also, the one I am looking at has a wooden Mast and spars as opposed to Alloy. What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Any info would e greatly appreciated.

Harry

Harry,

Check this Australian Broker he has this one listed in Langkawi :-

I have friends in Langkawi - who if doing nuphing can have sqizz at the mast (Which is wood)

Wood or Ali - both can have problems - corrosion or rot. If someone is really interested - there is a first class surveyor in Langkawi - obviously ali is lighter and easier to check for corrosion. If the wood is in good shape - it can last the life of the boat.

Good solid boats - this one has been in the tropics so it may be fitted out specifically.

Thanks so much for that Richard.

Would appreciate the details of the surveyor if possible in case we pursue this further.

I actually managed to find the owner of the same boat (Swedish) and his website on the web. I did send a email to the both the Aussie broker and Lee Marine but got no response from either so decided to see if I could find the owner myself and happy to say with some success. Got a response back from the owner so the emails are flying.

I think she will be suitable for around the tropics as she is fully insulated and for some of the colder extremes of NZ as well. Will keep you posted.

Again , thanks

Harry
