Just trying to get an idea on passage time between the Panama canal and Los Angels, California. The boat is a 40' catamaran and would be traveling in Jan or Feb. No stops planned except for fuel and provisions as nec. Any other advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

I would think that time of year would be a real slog uphill. I wouldn't want to be going north in the winter. Waiting for windows could take an eternity. I believe there is a route well offshore that the clippers used to go north. If memory serves me it is 3-500 miles off shore. This leaves you with a due east beam sail, or a close reach getting into L.A.

Possibly waiting until the end of March sailing to Hawaii would be easier, and faster? Here is a couple I know from S.F. that made the same trip................i2f

Gotta agree with IEF. Jan Feb is too early if Jimmy Cornell is to be believed and I would believe him. He suggests April - May and plots a route that goes well west of Clipperton Island and Revilla Gigedo and then comes in to San Diego from the south West. A total of 3752 miles. By my calcs at an average of 125 miles per day this should take around 30 days. Others wiser than I can correct me if I am wrong. I havent actually sailed this route so this is theoretical. (Does someone have better number than a averages of 125 miles per day)
