If you were to be able to put together a cruiser for passage making what would it look like?? It should be comfortable as a live aboard and able to make difficult passages in heavy weather. What lenght would it be ?? Would it be a center cockpit or aft cockpit? what sail configuration?? would it be an older refitted hull or would it be from newer materials and design. long replies are welcome

A hundred replies, and a hundred different opinions. Where do you plan on cruising, and how many people. What is your budget etc.etc.etc. More information about your intentions, and it will be easier to give some view points. My boat is perfect for me in all areas, except for doing high latitude sailing. Then I would want a monohull..............

well, i retire in 2 1/2 years and will move to a live aboard at that time. There will just be myself and my girlfriend so something managable by two would be necessary. i have set aside 200,000.00 for the boat and 50,000.00 for fitting and would like not to exceed that amount by too much . I will have a monthly budget of 5000.00 + to sail on. I would like to see as much of the world as I can for the next 10-15 years and will slow down a little after that (maybe). i am a retired us marine and retire from my second carreer the fall of 2010. I currently have an offshore sportfisher and have a fair amount of sea time but nothing undersail. I have bought a small sailboat for local sailing and am enrolled in an asa class to learn to do it right. I "will" begin cruising in 2010 and want to avoid as many rookie mistakes as i can.
