Default Borneo Update

How things change in just a few weeks

Got into Borneo late last night and currently sitting on the back deck of our new home - G&T;s in hand watching the sun go down over the marina. It's such a painful time we've almost got tears in our eyes

After numerous discussions with Oz customs re import duty and Oz Quarantine re flying up a beagle with two handlers from Brisbane to check for termites at $95 per 15 min - thats each! - including the dog! and seeing the lotto man as yet to darken our doorstep - we've decided to leave Australis II in Borneo and just fly back and forth from Oz with friends as we explore Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines over the next couple of years.

We now have her Oz registered and she's sitting in a luxurious resort that's costing us a pittance - we must have been mad thinking about sailing her back

Mico (back in Oz) is looking dressed to the nines with new sails, respray and new varnish and while we have her on the market, we took her for a 3 day sail last week and were once again reminded just what a wonderful vessel she is to sail. At this point we're running dangerously close to being a permanent two boat family.

At least now we know that is she doesn't sell for a while - we'll enjoy her to the max and won't be rushing to accept the first offer that may come in.

We think we've now contacted everyone who applied re the now defunct plan to sail Australis back to Oz and thank you all for your overwhelming enthusiasm! Once we sort out the systems and get a few small trips under our belt we'll be in a better position to take on some travellers as we explore this part of the world.

To think - just six years ago we built and sailed our little 23' sloop across the top of oz and now, another two boats later we're swanning about Borneo and Malaysia

Life is full of surprises and you just never know what's around the corner.

mico/australis - not sure what we should be calling ourselves now

Thanks for the update! Sounds like this makes sense for now--you'll explore and enjoy your new boat in new places w/o having to deal with the red tape back home
