Default Canary Islands 05

Hi! Im on my way to the Canary Islands any day now. Was gonna check if what I have heard is true..:

At this time until the very end of November there will be Yachts of all sorts in the Canary Island region looking for crew to make a passage over to the West Indies?

What harbour is my best bet to find a spot on a boat?

All tips and answers are welcome! =D

Thanks - Ludde / Sweden!

The ARC departs from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, so that's one possibility, Ludde. However, for this same reason and the full marina it causes, many other boats waiting to depart will be at Lanzarote or one of the other islands in the Canaries. Good luck!

Thanks jack for your info! If you read this again please just pop in what exactly the "ARC" is..?

Is Las Palmas the main harbour then? And are there still boats in idle positions waiting for passage over ?

ARC is the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. http://www.worldcruising.com/arc/english.htm

Check it out, there are requirements for joining it, primarily safety gear. Some people love it, some people hate it.

It's not one of the rallies we've joined, but that's only because we never got to the Med. I personally like the various yacht regattas and rallies for the activities and camraderie. We never viewed it as a safer way to make passages, just a less lonely way.

Back in the 80s there was a craft shop in Castries called Bagshaw's, which had lovely silk-screened fabric goods to sell. I hope it's still there, because I've not seen another place like it in the Caribbean.

Hi LUdde,

If you go to that ARC site shown above you'll find a forum for crew seeking spots.

Good luck
