This little legend has been sitting patiently on the hardstand in Darwin for many years. A true inspiration to many cruising sailors, she still stands proud.

Holy s^&&, is that the real Dove? I don't see how it could be, the real Lapworth 24 had a full keel, didn't she?

Nope- the real Dove was lost to a hurricane in St Thomas, USVI. Perhaps not a bad thing, based on the deterioration that had taken place in the last picture I saw of her.

I remember reading Robin's reports in National Geographic, and also remember how unhappy (dog-tired, perhaps) he was. Apparently when he arrived in the Caribbean he refused to go on in his little boat. I gather it was National Geographic that bought him his second, larger DOVE.

Anyway, in one of the sailing mags. recently (well, in the last 10-15 years, anyway) there was a report and photo of the adult Robin Lee Graham, living far from the sea in ... Montana (or Colorado, one of those hilly Western states, anyway). I think it was either Cruising World or Sail mag. that did the article.
