GRIB files
Does anyone know where I can download GRIB files for Australia's East Coast that will "just work" with OpenCPN?
I've tried all the usual sites but honestly I don't need a tutorial or a viewer, just the darned files. Government sites seem to be far too technical and require signup before you can download files, and they tend to contain far larger files than are actually needed for practical use.
I also don't need or want want some system that requires downloading via email, just a link I can click while online. Thanks.

TBH the email sites are the best. The one that I use is globalmarine.net although the one at saildocs.com is useful too. The online ones tend to be set up with weird parameters for specific applicatons / apps. You might try predictwind.com but their main product is pay for use.
You're best off learning how to use the email based GRIB file retrievers because if you're at sea with a satphone or HF radio/PACTOR that's all you'll be able to use.

Indeed, eventually email will be needed. Right now I'm just after some files to test the thing, and on day trips for the next year at least I should be able to use internet downloads.

Uh, I just tested globalmarine.net and that went to a Florida boat broker. Typo?
Edit: Found it. The address should have been globalmarinenet.com Del.

globalmarinenet.com had exactly what I was after, a wind and wave grib for the Tasman Sea area from Melbourne right around to the Queensland border. Pity it's a NOAA model but we can't have everything. Maybe the Aus Met Bureau will get their act together one day.

Not for GRIB files, they have a paid for service for GRIBs but it's pretty expensive. Luckily you don't need to rely on the NZ metservice.
