Hi there!

Hope all of you had a great Christmas and New Years.

Anyone here that has any knowledge/thoughts about HR 42´s? Suitable for extended cruising/live aboard?

Take care.

Marcus

Yes, yes, yes.

HR are great quallity boats, many of which have reound-the-world voyages to their credit. The boatyard offers an excellent aftersales service too.

See http://www.hallberg-rassy.com

Incidentally, there were two HR 42 designs: the Enderlin and the Freifers. Which is it? Both however are magnificent craft.

Hi Stephen.

I´m looking at a couple but all pre 1991, so Enderlein. The one designed by Frers is newer and so more money. The older one is even streching my budget . We´ll see...

Found some nice one´s from 1985-88 in good condition with many upgrades both ketch and sloop rigged.

Yep, they are not cheap but I believe that they are an exampel of getting what you pay for. Strong, well built boats with a fantastic finish. I have been to their boatyard in Ellos on the Swedish west coast a few times and am always impressed by the quality of their work.

The quality and workmanship are fantastic. I have been to the factory a couple of times and the care that goes into every boat is incredible. The price is high, but so is the resale value.

We have frineds who have a HR 42 built in the 80's and love it. If fact, I have never met any HR owner who was not happy with their boat -- or they are buying a larger HR.

You may want to read John Neal's reasons for choosing his current HR 46 on his mahina.com/chose.html website. He owned a HR 42 and sailed it more than 100,000 miles.

Yes, we own an HR....the 40.

If you want to ask more questions about the early HR 42, the Yahoo HR-owners site is excellent and you will get a lot of responses.

Thanks Jim!

I´ll take a look on that.

Take care.
