How can I stop my boat from sinking?

Hi all,

We are planning a voyage where the possibility of hull punctures are very real! I wanted to ask everyones opinion on techniques and equipment we should have on board to respond to a small to large hull puncture. I have heard of people using wet cure epoxy, cushions, sails any suggestions???

Please check out our rare and remote voyage we would like your feed back at

Hi there, again,

Before expecting a lot of input to this new thread, I suggest that you actually continue the dialog in the thread you started on the Coldest Voyage link. Several of us responded and are interested in your preparations as well as your take on the responses you've received there.

Cruiserlog members are great about responding with lots of information/experience. However, if you're not replying to our members' input on your old questions, then folks become not so good about responding to your new questions.

Fair winds,

The best way to avoid grief is through prudent preventative maintenance and proper passage planning to avoid potentially dangerous places that may punch holes in your life. The same technique may help save your sinking boat, too.

Good Luck!

I appreciate the responses! We have decided to seal off the forward v-berth as a bouyancy tank of sorts. Also we will be carrying a large inflatable bag we can deploy in the aft cabin.

I have a catamaran with built-in bouyancy tanks at all four ends. Nevertheless and additionally I have filled two closed-off compartments in the bows with polystyrene. I also carry large empty plastic cannisters, all together 100l, in the aft sections of the hulls.
