Default I'm ba-a-ack!

Hi Guys 'n Gals,

Well, I finally did it. Just sent payment for a 35' Hartley ferro moored on Sydney Harbour. No, it wasn't the right time either financially or otherwise, but is there really a "right time" to start living your dream?

She has been painted and antifouled in 2011, including the mast, and new running lights and mast LEDs fitted. Onboard is an 80W solar panel and 100AH battery for power. There is a diesel (which will need replacement - it has a rod through the side of the block) and an Evinrude outboard. Head has just been replaced and there is also a shower and an old gas stove.

There are no electronics at all, but I'd want to do that myself anyhow. Well, there's one exception, she comes with a Raymarine tiller pilot.

Moored within sight of Sydney Harbour Bridge with fees of $600pa, this yacht was a steal at the price I paid: AU$5,100

Pretty darn good for the money and once you get her up to scratch you will know her very well. The silver coin under the mast is usually done when someone changes the name of the yacht.

Smiles, the happiest days of yacht ownership are the day one buys her and the day one sells her.

Gooday you mob - all - Captn. Rob - aka "Haigu" - Lexx in PD & the guy in Gisbourne - mate.

What a great task you've choosen to take on. How terrible that you 'have to' be there - all the working hours. 1/2 your luck. I know some ex-pat Oz people that live in 'lesser' places (cold, wet, windy) & them like me - would just 'kill' to be tied up next to you so we could help with your enjoyable task(s). WEll DONE, for sure. Lexx is up here just north of us - in another kind of paradise. Scatered showers today/ 21* / light winds & we're thinking of you. Best days are days on board, working, sailing, fishing, having 'sundowners' or 6, early mornings in the cockpit c/w hot tea/coffee & watchig all the 'ants' running around in circles on land - - & you not being in the middle of it all. Grand fortune to you & caio, james

Way to celebrate my first anniversary as a forum member, eh? Thanks for all the well-wishes. Will let you all know how she looks in a couple of weeks when I get to Sydney.

Your Welcome Rob

I am right now in the island of Samos after a few days in Turkey. Unfortunately I will be leaving my boat for 10 days to attend some family business but will be back cruising by the beginning of June.

Vasilis

Just went through Sydney to inspect the yacht and transfer registration and mooring. It was bucketing rain and looked like it wouldn't stop for a month, so I didn't even pump up the dinghy. I did sight the yacht from shore though, so at least know it exists.

Surprise #1: I managed to hang onto the mooring, even though it's in a premium position. There was one person on the waiting list for the area and normally a mooring becomes available to them at change of ownership. NSW Maritime let me keep it. :-)

Surprise #2: Mooring fee for the year has gone up to $711.00 which is still a bargain.

Now in Brisbane, heading north for work.
