Found this 7 LED 6Volt light in my local village electrical shop --- $ US 2.00 --- $ AUS 2.17

Tested - good.

The price is coming down - are the Yacht suppliers ripping us off ???

As we all know........anytime the word marine is involved. So goes a reasonable price out the window!

We found really lovely LED lights for home use in a hardware store in Finland, and again in Denmark. The lights were 12V, and for 240V home use they needed to install a transformer 240V > 12V. The lights were more expensive than 12V LED lights now being offered in the West Marine catalog! So. If you're in Scandinavia, boat gear just might be cheaper than that made for homes.

6V LED arrays, as I bought in Home Depot, were quite cheap, but we still haven't worked out the best way to step down house 12V to the 6V. We've bought a variety of resistors, but the heat generated hasn't been acceptable. Still working on it.
