Jeanne Socrates, the 67-year old sailor from the UK who is singlehanding her vessel Nereida non-stop around the globe, suffered a knockdown in high seas and winds on January 5th during her approach to rounding Cape Horn.....

Full report - HERE

She has had such a run of bad luck - hope everything goes smoothly for her now.

Wow! I am impressed by her clear-headed stamina. May things go better for her now, she's earned that.

That was quite an experience. I have been following her voyage since you posted the link. I was just ready to thank you in a post the day she had the knockdown. Well she's in port now,and safe AND dry. It is reassuring to note that the Navy and Coast Guard responded soo promptly. A testimonial to SSB on board.

G'day - mates all. She sure is a well-balanced lady with much resourcefulness, a good SSB & fortunate that all the officials responded as quickly as they did. GOOD ON HER. Why anyone would choose to sail around the Cape let alone single-handed is way far beyond me. Like Brenda (& I suspect David) would choose to go single-handed is also a long way from a choice I would ever contemplate. No one to share those 'magical moments with either at that time or later. She is much luckier than the Canadian that got killed by pirates or the Lady that lost her life after retiring from the race though. My heart goes out to all those involved in those tragic happenings. Life can be so harsh & blunt. Good sailing to all. I read that Kirk, crew & yacht have arrived in paradise - Sydney harbour & I hope he has sold his Windlass & maybe get to meet up with Del - whom I sus will help with his Ais Garmin solution. If I was back in Sydney I'd sure be asking Del for assistance. Ciao, from the 'soggy far-north Queensland' SR - jj - 'geri-h-t'
