Default Mixing old and new led acid batteries

I have 2 trojan 12v group 31 (130AH) led acid deep cycle batteries about one year old. Are there any consequences of mixing them with 105AH deep cycle group 31 Exide battereis also led acid. Since I already have one exide from 2003 I was gonna just get another exide group 31 105AH and put all 4 batteries into one house bank. The other option is to get two more trojans but the money is tight. I am just wondering if this seems like a good way to save few dollars?

I'm sure someone who understands the complexities will tell you why, but I have always understood it is best to have same condition / size batteries in the one bank. Not mix them as you are suggesting.

Do you not have another battery - say one for your engine - of the same age / size as the existing service batteries?

If you do, it would be better to put that one into the service bank and use the new / different sized battery for the engine.

Cheers

JOHN

They would all be group 31. trojans are 130AH and exides are 105AH. I think they are close enough just that one exide is from 2003 and one I would get new. The one from 2003 is used very little as a starting battery. I did equalize them regularly.

Hi there

Providing all your batteries are led acid, deep cycle and still are good batteries it doesn't matter what amperage, brand or age. You can add new ones to your house bank. Your engine battery should be a crank battery not deep cycle.

We have both (d/c) trojan and (d/c) exide batteries in our house bank.

Fair sailing

The price of trojan batteries has skyrocketed since 2004! Now the same place wants 166$ US for a 130AH G31 trojan.

These were around 100$ two years ago.

I am glad mixing exide and trojans caused no problems.

Thanks Jackiy,

Petar
