I have a Moody 419 yacht ( http://www.moodyowne...ves/30_boat.htm )

I am looking to use the PredictWind.com weather forecasting site for trip routing.

One of the inputs that is required is the Boat Performance Polars.

Does anyone out there have performance polars for the Moody 419 or something similar?

The PredictWind site lists some predefined Boat Polars including Cal40, Class40, Swan42 - any ideas which would be the closest to the Moody 419?

As an alternative the PredictWind site enables entering maximum speed achieved in 15 knots wind speed and moderate waves for

1) Upwind VMG

2) 90 degree boatspeed

3)Downwind VMG

I don't have VMG instrumentation. Any suggestions on the VMG that I'm likely to achieve

Thanks

Darryl

Have you contacted the Moody Owner's Association? They might be more likely to be able to provide the information.

Since VMG varies by speed and course (angle to wind), it is something you'd enter while on passage. You can usually get it from your GPS as you're sailing towards a waypoint. I don't think anybody could guess at a VMG for trip planning. You could do an internet search for "VMG calculation" which should give you the formula for calculating it while underway.
