My New Lazy Jacks And Cradle System

I believe about a month ago several of us were talking about lazy jack systems. Well, I finally received and installed mine from UK sails. I like it a lot and hope to get out and use it next weekend.

So... how is the bag portion attached to the boom? Is it now necessary to fly the main loose footed? How is the tension adjusted on the lazy jack portion? How expensive was it? If you don't mind me asking.

We're gearing up for departure from St Thomas in December and heading for Panama and points beyond. See you out there?

Looks good Ken. I have bought the Sunbrella and am currently adapting a pattern which I hope to stitch up on my Sailrite in the next week or so. I am only about a month away from moving aboard and it is just one of the squillion jobs which I have yet to complete in the interim.

Actually, I haven't been down to the boat to see it in person yet due to business travel. The foto was taken by my friend. He thinks that they didn't match the canvas color correctly...and judging from the picture, I'd have to agree.

And yes, the foot is designed to fly free. UK sails charged $1600US +$200 install fee...as such, I expect the color to match for that much money...wouldn't you?

Personally - I think minor colour mis-matches add character to a boat and makes it unique.

Rather expensive lazy jack system. Mine cost under a $100 and about 4 hours of labor to install. 4 brass rings, 6 small eyes, two cheek blocks, two cleats and about 200' of 1/4" line. FWIW, with a full battened main, it's best to tie the lazyjacks forward when hoisting the sail. The upper battens have a tendency to get hooked up in the lazyjack lines at the the leech as you hoist the sail, if you don't. Also, to my eye, looks better not to have the lazyjack lines hanging out when sailing.

I think that may have included the sail bag etc.
