Question Need Advise Mao Ta 36 / Panoceanic / Hans Christian?

Hi,
We're brand new to this site. My girlfriend Julie and I are looking for a new boat and considering a Mao Ta 36. We found this bastard child of Bob Perry with a Brewer bite in the keel.
Does anyone have one of these boats with experiences to share?
What are the weak points to watch?
Advice please... should we buy one of these boats?
Suggested alternatives in same price range?
thanks,
Joe and Julie

Gooday - U-2 - Why not ask Bob Perry directly - he's a great person - very honest - extremely communicative & straight forward. Send him an e-mail - I'm sure he'll answer & with lots of help. Ciao, james

I thought it was a variation of the Hans Christian 36 or a Union Cutter? If so, you should be able to get info from the HC owners group.

However, is it really a double ender that you're wanting? Or, just a mid-30 foot good-cruiser?

I heard that one of the best double enders on the market around the 33' mark is the Alajuela 33

Apparently they are the most sought after yachts in the entire world and as rare as hen's teeth.

There is however, one of these for sale in Australia coincidently and its apparently chocka block with all new gear, been resprayed and has a new set of sails that have only been used once. It's done nearly two circumnavigations and I hear the owners (incredibly friendly and helpful) are open to offers.

But that is just what I hear around the traps Perhaps you should check it out for yourselves:

Is this where I now state 'this is an unbiased comment from someone unrelated to the owners?'

Fair winds and good luck with your hunt,

Mico
