Assuming you don't want the cruising to end... where do you go during hurricane season?

I'm certainly no expert, but...

If I didn't want the cruising to end - I'd sail toward the far side of the equator.

Generally speaking - tropical cyclones rarely venture much closer than ten degrees north or south of the equator, an area known as the inter tropical convergance zone (ITCZ) which is often characterized by everything from periods of dead calm to violent squalls.

I'm sure there are exceptions... but I've never heard of a destructive cyclone penetrating the ITCZ...

But I may be wrong.

Barnacle...I will assume you are thinking of Caribe cruising...at the start of the season...people usually head either north...to the Chesapeake and beyond...our South...to Grenada or Trinidad to stay out of the hurricane belt. Venezuela is also an option weather wise but politics and violence make that ess attractive these days. Hunkering down in Luperon in the DR is also an option as they have never had a hurricane due to the surrounding mountains.

Depends on where you are, but you might want to think about the Rio Dolce, Glades or Hemmingway Marina.

good sailing
