I asked a friend if a passport was needed to transit from Seattle to Juneau,AK? Some scuttle about the present admin. looking for more revenue, by having everyone crossing into Canada having to purchase a passport? I can't find anything on it.

The US is now requiring all countries nationals to have a passport to enter or transit the US. Canada is considering reciprocal measures. If you are leaving the continental US you had best have a passport - even just to get back in...

You need a passport to get back into the US. Nothing to do with revenue, everything to do with security. The US was very lax in the past, and it's finally getting a bit smarter. Not very smart, just smarter than previously.

I can get a birth certificate for anybody I want - not the most secure form of identification!

I'm a Brit who was recently granted a visa to visit the USA. The proceedure took four and a half hours. I don't have a problem with that at all, it's my choice to visit and the right of the US to screen visitors. That inconvenient delay at the border may just mean they catch the " patriot" or "Martyr" who would vaporise you and your family,if they managed to reach their non-military targets.
