Does anyone have personal experience with the FURUNO 1623 LCD Radar?

Defender has 'em listed right now for $1069.00 w/ 10 mtr cable and Aye am very tempted to lay my money down... unless someone talks me out of it.

Radar - like having someone with great eye-sight on watch with me all the time!

To Life!

Kirk

Hi Kirk,

NO personal experience of this model ! But have on other Furunos - generally very good reliable kit.

I have one question and that relates to the screen size :-

# Waterproof, 6 Inch Silver Bright Monochrome LCD Display

# 13 User Selectable Range Scales from 1/8 to 16 N.M.

# Ergonomic design with predictable menu

# Display Resolution of 240(H) X 320(V) Dots

# Targets Displayed in up to 4 Levels of Gray Tones

# 2.2 Kilowatt Transmitter Unit

# New Tri-speed 15" radome antenna, increases RPM at short ranges for better target accuracy

6 Inch Silver Bright Monochrome - how is this measured ? If across the diagonal - then 6" may be a bit on the small side. If taking the Resolution size 240 = 6" - then 320 = 8"

then not too bad - but still need some idea as to how far away this screen can be mounted for it still to be readable ???

Richard

Our new radar is up and running... and I have no complaints, so far.

Mounted the dome on the stern arch and display is next to the companionway hatch - which enables us to see it from both the helm and the nav station, below.

Hardest part was snaking the 15mtr cable through the guts of our boat without entangling our four year old son.

The 6" display is measured diagonally. Actual display dimensions are 4.75 x 3.5 inches and can double as a simple repeater for depth, GPS, wind, etc... anything with NMEA interface.

Fewer keys than the 1622 model... but more features included in this newer version.

To Life!

Kirk
