Hello All - I have been surfing trying to find a Catamaran for Charter in Puerto Rico...For sailing in the Spanish Virgins ...

Rather than start in Tortola or the USVI we would like to start in the SP VI , Go upwind to the BVI and then have the winds to our back on the way back to PR. Does anyone have any experience with Charter companies in Puerto Rico. Or BETTER YET : ) , anyone need crew on a cat around the first of December .......

Thanks For any help

Tom & Diana

I do not think that you will find a good bareboat catamaran charter outfit on the main island of Puerto Rico, but there are several "crewed charter" boat operations. Most of the larger operations are based in the Virgin's. There are several in St. Thomas and that location has the advantage of being upwind of the Spanish Virgins so the normal routing would be from Charlotte Amalie to St. Croix or depending upon the time you have - straight southwest to Viegues than west / northwest to Fajardo then follow the line of islands to Culebra and its islands. Then a short hop east back to Charlotte Amalie/Benner Bay or if time is available up eastward along the north coast of St. Thomas to Magens Bay then further eastward to St. John's north coast which is full of fabulous bays. Then clockwise around St. John for a nice downwind run back to St. Thomas. This is much nicer and get faster access to the great bays and Spanish Virgins.

CYOA is located in Frenchtown in Charlote Amalie and VIP Charters are in Benner Bay... both on south side of St Thomas. You can see both Vieques & Culebra on a clear day. We made it over to Culabra in five hours from Benner Bay. It's usually a run over and a beat back. Many folks steer a course to St Croix on the way back to St Thomas.

Enjoy!
