Thanks mawm & swagman for the advice. I also believe existing cruisers is the way to go. It would appear the best value for money is to be had in the USA. Locally in South Africa reasonable yachts appear to be more expensive than the USA whilst affordable yachts are really 'clapped out' and require total refurbishment. I also believe that with the rapid advances in technology electronic equipment older than 5 or so years is outdated. Because of this I feel that its more important to look at the yachts construction and overall condition as more important and accept that I would in all probability need to replace all electronics. Because of this I can almost ignore all electronics and concentrate on the yachts other attributes.
One other thing I would like to know, as I have read conflicting reports, do CC yachts or aft cockpit yachts offer the better option when it comes to rough weather conditions. From what I read some say you remain 'drier' with CC yachts whilst others say the same for aft cockpits, whats the truth.
I appreciate all imput as I continue my quest.
