Every rig is different--including yours. Nobody can answer a one liner open question like that. Are you rigging a pocket cruiser, a ketch, a racing sloop, a schooner, a cruising cutter, a 20' boat, a 45' cat, a 30' trimaran? Who designed the original rig? Take a look at the rigging plan for the boat as it was originally intended by the naval architect. Contact the builder or NA office for information specific to your boat. If it is a production boat, contact the owners' group.

If home built, no naval architect, no owners' group, and no information available from the previous owner, get a copy of Brion Toss's Rigger's Apprentice. Read it. Then interview your riggers asking them the right questions and you'll have your answer and understand it.

Good luck.
