Default Crew wanted - opportunity of world trip

Dear Shipmates,

My Dad is looking for a crew, either an individual or a couple to travel the world, or do a leg, from August 2012 onwards on the Valdange , priviledge 39 Cat.

We plan on leaving Pembroke, Wales at the beginning of August and heading down towards the Baleriac Islands before crossing the Atlantic. There will be my dad for the whole journey and some of the family (there may be up to 3 children; 14,11 & 7 yrs, on board) for different legs. We are looking for either 2 individuals or a team of two, willing to consider all types of experience.

Skipper states that the expected daily cost-share stated is for FOOD only and does not include fuel, boat operating costs, marina fees, or any other expenses of cruising nor for profit

If you fancy a bit of adventure and are not constrained to time then please get in touch

Nikki

Dear Nikki,

This sounds like a great opportunity to me! I am 33 years old man with a background in engineering and a passion for sailing.
I do not have much sailing experience (about 2000 miles - 500 as skipper - and a RYA DaySkipper certificate) but I can compensate by enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
I would very much like to know more about this adventure and also let you know more about myself, so please contact me at egrama at gmail dot com.

Best regards,
Emil

I am a 28 year old male with little to no sailing experience, but a passion to learn as much as possible. My friend who would accompany me has sailing experience and we will both be available starting in Mid October. This sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime and I am more than interested. Please send me an email whenever you have time. david.schlink@hotmail.com Thanks and I hope you enjoy yourselves to the fullest.

Default Hello Nikki!

My name is Jeremy. I am 24 years old and an enthusiast of the sea! I have very little experience sailing, but I have many other skills which would be useful on a boat:

I can cook like a five star chef!
I can wire solar panels!
I am an Eagle Scout and have many survival skills!
I am certified in CPR!
I have a younger sister and I know how to treat children!
I have a passion for learning!
I was raised in Alaska and spent lots of time in cramped spaces with friends camping!

It has been a dream of mine to sail the world. I will one day. Why not now! I currently work in Los Angeles and can leave at any time. I have enough money to support myself for food. I will clean, educate or play with the children, keep watch, learn something new every day, be the spirit and light of the ship.

I have a friend who can travel with me with similar experience or I can come alone if you need a single.

Please reach out to me if you'd like any more information. Best of luck on your trip! Stay safe and keep a journal!

Dear Nikki,

How're you?

My name is James, I am 25 years old from "The North"

My friend is a member of this forum and recommended me to this topic.
I am currently in Isle of Wright looking for work.

I am down here because I have just finished my VHF Radio, STCW95 and Powerboat II all through the correct RYA channels. My next move is to go down to Antibes but since my friend told me to stop by your post I thought why not.

I have previous sailing experience but with the passion to learn more.
I have sent you a PM with more details and if you require any more information off myself please ask!

Thank you,
James

Hello Nikki! Me (spanish girl, 21, finishing engineering studies in Southampton) and Gaspar (belgium guy, 22, finishing engineering studies in Southampton) are a young couple looking for any opportunity to sail. Our plan at the momemnt is to deliver a boat from Mallorca to Canarias at the end of September and are looking for some interesting boat with whom cross the big pond to end up somewhere in Caribbean and find a job as crew there. Gaspar is RYA Offshore Yachtmaster and I am RYA Coastal Yachtmaster. We have done lots of sailing since we were kids, we can cook, we can speak English, Spanish and French and we can fix things (although there's hopefully no need for that!) Give us your email and we will send you a full sailing CV.

Cheers!!

Rocio

Default Atlantic trip

Hi Nikki
I'm very keen on helping out with your Dads trip, I'm currently in Northumberland and interested in any legs of the journey, I have the sea firmly entrenched in me, and have always had a close association with it. My history :Ex Royal Navy Submariner, Lifeboat Coxswain, Ships diver, Open water diver, level 1/2 and safety boat powerboat licence, Day and Coastel Skipper sailing with ICC and currently working towards Yachtmaster, I'm easy going, hopefully fun, but certainly a good team player, I'm also involved in kids junior football , so possess 1st Aid, child protection and CRB certification. I love all aspects of sailing so would be more than happy with any parts of the trip I'm fit and agile enough to undertake any on board task. Your post suggests that you are possibly looking for a second crew member although my wife holds her Comp Crew wild horses would not drag her into the Atlantic, but I do have a pal Paul Harrison currently doing his Day Skippers, he's an ex RAF comms technician and much further advanced than his qualification would suggest being a good all round hand, if we could be of any use to your Dad please drop us a line.

Many thanks
Pete Troy

Hi Nikki,

My name is Wolfgang, I am 43 years old and I am looking for a unique sailing adventure with a friendly and relaxed crew. I am happy to work hard and learn new skills. In future I would like to own my own yacht and cruise around the Pacific Ocean.

I am a medical doctor with German background. I have an interest in expedition medicine and have a wide variety of medical emergency skills which could be handy if medical support is far away.

I live in Australia where I have been working for the Royal Fl ying Doctor Service in Western Australia. Currently I do locum work as a specialist anaesthetist in Hervey Bay Queensland. This kind of lifestyle keeps me flexible to escape short noticed on adventures without time limits.

My interests are fitness and healthy living. I love kite surfing and would be happy to teach.

It would be awesome to hear back from you

Hello, Hope your journey is going well so far. I am looking for a working/paying passage from east coast of Aus (Brisbane) to South America (Chile/Argentina) in 2013. I have done a crossing on a 40' yacht from Durban to Fremantle which took 6 weeks. Duties included cooking, cleaning, night watch, teas and coffees.

Hi Nikki!
I'm a 22 year old adventurous guy, who's dreaming of crossing the atlantic, i dont mind kids at all, I'd consider myself as good company for both kids and adults. I'm vitalistic and out going. I have all the time i want on my hands but don't mind just stepping of at some random harbor if necessary.
We could meet up as I am still in Copenhagen, Denmark, where i live.
please write back if you have any questions or if you're still in need of crew member(s)

Hi Nikki and family,

My boyfriend and I saw your ad and are checking in with you in case you needed people midway through your trip. We are looking to sail this January/February. We are both wildland firefighters and have work off until mid March. I have sea experience working on a commercial salmon boat in the Prince William Sound as a skiff driver and cork layer, and Chris has a larger skiff boat off his land in Brazil. Neither of us have sailing experience, but we are very helpful and like to work. Chris is 40 and I am 34, we have been together for a year and a half. Both of us have been exploring the world for over 10 years and want to take on a new adventure.

I hope this holiday season finds you well.

Hi! My name is Marie and I am 24 years old. I have approx 4 months off (May-Sept), and would love to participate in a sailing trip such as this one. If you are still looking for crew members, please send me an email to let me know and will send you a much longer email about me. In terms of experience, all I can offer at this stage is enthusiasm, but I am very keen to learn and would be more than happy to help with all the duties onboard!

Default crew position

Hi,

Saw your post. Are you still in need of crew? Where are you?

Just wanted to introduce myself and let you know that I'm interested in joining your crew.

Here’s some info about me.

I sailed Hobie Cats as a kid. Sailed whenever I could get on a boat, weekly club races on Long Island Sound and Puget Sound, crewed from Guatamala to Florida, bare-boat chartered in the Caribbean and Tahiti. Had my own boat, a Catalina 30, and "cruised" the San Juans and Gulf Islands five months each of the past few summers, single-handed and on the hook. Winters I was living on her at the marina.

Graduated from UCSB and then went traveling, chasing mountains around the world. Have spent about 15 years abroad, mainly in South Asia, Japan, New Zealand and Central America. Worked on and off for Stanford University during the 1980s. Have lived east coast, west coast and in between. Have done a lot of bicycle and motorcycle touring. Interested in nature, especially birdwatching, mushrooming, fishing/crabbing. Just sold my house, gonna miss my vegetable garden. I love reading.

My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

I've decided to get more seriously into boating. I bought my first boat a few years ago and the learning curve has been incredible. I knew wind and sails, sailing lingo and how to handle a boat, but now it's all about safety and systems and the responsibilities of a captain. Best way to learn is hands-on. But now I’m boatless again and am looking for the opportunity to sail with others and learn more about boats. My dream is to sail to Alaska. And then who knows.

I sold my Catalina 30 not too long ago, but now looking to get back and more deeply into sailing. Very interested to learn more about all aspects of boating. Would appreciate the opportunity to help out on your boat, get more experience and knowledge, and have fun. Thanks.

And if you have the time, where in SE Asia are sailing hubs where one would have a good chance of finding crew positions. I figure to just go with my kitbag and prowl the marinas. Thanks.

Jack Whittemore

p.s. I’m healthy, unencumbered and financially secure.
