Hi,

It is probable that bars for cruising boats have little in the way of a priority in the list of projects/repairs/ etc.

It could be that many cruisers find that the cocktail hour is best served in the cockpit with other cruisers - where their plans and projects are discussed over a couple of drinks

I agree that there are few better places to watch the sun set with a cold glass of wine than the deck of your own boat, however it is nice to spend the occasional evening ashore - the most welcoming places we've visited so far are:

- Jambe de Bois - just off Pigeon Island in Rodney Bay, St Lucia. A great hostess, free wi-fi, good bookswap, delicious rotis and decent price on the beer.

- Kings Well Resort - Oranje Bay, St Eustacius - dinner/drinks with a complete menagerie of cats, macaws, dogs and iguanas.

- Puerto Amistad Yacht Club - Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador - the price of a cold beer in Ecuador was hard to beat, and this bar's position on piles out over the river made for great views and a cooling breeze. The host is an ex-cruiser and couldn't have been more helpful.

Not many bars sampled across the south Pacific as the prices were prohibitive.

Back to the maintenance etc.
