Grenada! Da Spice Isle! What an easy place to like!
We've been loving life anchored under this one Caribbean courtesy flag for about six weeks... splashing about under waterfalls, beach barbecues, playing frisbee, croquet & snorkeling with my son, eating conch rotis with cold beers & fresh fish with fine wines, dancing the Carneval, gunkholing the southern coast, Hog Island, shooting pool, watching the Summer Olympics at the Grenada YC, running with the local Hash House Harriers, tinkering with the boat and enjoying ourselves and we could easily find a reason to stay a season or three. Everybody seems happy and friendly, the fresh markets are cheap & bountiful, there'a an international cruising community, great fishing, seven waterfalls and countless places to anchor. Grenada is, in a word - Sensational.
We've spent much of our time anchored right in the heart of historic St Georges - the capitol city, where all our needs are within easy reach by dinghy. Plus we wnjoy free WiFi coverage to our boat giving us immediate internet access to weather data and contact with friends around the globe - complements of Island Water World and Skype! We're in the Big City, yet I can hear a symphony of frogs, crickets, fish and natural night sounds as I type this.
But - as much as we love it here, we're sailing south just as soon as the winds clock back around to "normal"... perhaps tomorrow. These winds can blow strange when you're trying to reason with hurricane season. We need to be in Panama by Thanksgiving. Google "Los Roques", "San Blas Islands" and "Bocas del Toro" for a look at some of the finest regional offerings.
To Life!
Kirk
