Default Is STCW95 enough ?

Hi there people of much experience, I'm just about to get my stcw95 and believe it's enough with all my experience to get me onboard a boat?

I'm looking to get a contract on a HUGE boat in France going onto the Caribbean.....Am i pie in the sky, do the jobs exist, should i stay at home?

If not i'll have a great time right?

I'm not one to give up, so if there is a row boat going that needs crew i'll be on it, if they pay !

Leaving the Uk on Nov 7th, arrive in Antibes the same day....anyone out there wanna hook up for a chat when I get there ? ( oh and maybe a beer/glass of red ) I'll be all on my own and would love to meet someone who knows what they are doin!

Thank youp

Craig ( ex-pat Kiwi in the Uk )i'm not old or anything!

Hi Craig,

Sorry to sound dumb but what's a STCW95?

Good luck in finding a ride.

Hi,

A little information which might shed some light on the subject.

STCW is an acronym for STandards of Training and Certification of Watchkeepers and is applicable to merchant vessels. STCW Class I being equivilent to the old Master Foreign Going, down to STCW Class VII which equates to the old Mate Home Trade (using British nomniculture).

There are STCW standards for engineers as well of course.

What exactly Craig means when he writes that he is about to get his STCW I cannot say but assume (and I apologise if my asumption is incorrect) it to be a certificate for a watchkeeping rating. Please Craig, a little more info and we may well be able to help you.

Cheers

Stephen
