Hi StephenYes I think your right They were in Dover last week.I believe they are either auxillary or training ships The masts are very tall and looking at them from outside the harbour it looked like a square rigger alongside probably my blurred vision Steve

Denmark. Nice place - lousy weather this year. But I got a lot of jobs done on the boat so it was not wasted time and we had a few good sails. Two days of fine weather and many more of rain and wind much to my oldest son's discomfort - say no more! My younget boy also managed to catch a big garfish so he was well satisfied too.

The summary - good but could have been better.

Cheers // Stephen

Stephen

I have always fancied sailing to Denmark and also Norway now the boats finished it may be a possibility but I also have a 91 year old Father in Law living with us and that makes going sailing for more than a day very awkward.

Maybe one day I hope that I'm not too old by then!!

Hi Richard

She's a Hustler 35 mk1 built 1970 designed by Holman & Pye built by Tyler Boat Co, Tonbridge and fitted out by Landamores and Co, Wroxham.

Definitely a SHE as all the curves are in the right places.

But then I'm biased!!

For a female hustler of 37 - she is definitely in good shape - good pedigree !

I used to visit Wroxam frequently - horrid little bridge across the river Bure to get into the town.

I had a house south of Blakeney - where I belonged to the sailing club - thus the reason for going

to Wroxham - occasionally would hire a Sabre in Wroxham to sail the broads

The Orion a signal monitoring ship - I understand there is a plan to replace her in 2 or 3 years time. The Ruskies didn't like her !

I wonder how may gallons of fuel she carries in that tank on the superstructure ?

Hi Richard,

You are well informed. Yes, she is due to be replaced and you are right, the Ruskies definately do not like her. A number of years ago she was rammed by a Soviet warship in international waters.

The "tank" was probably added to fool the ruskies into thinking we used gravity feeds for the main engines. In reality, it is an oversize beer keg!

If the Ruskies found out that you guys stopped drinking beer in the 1700's and discovered your absolutely well kept secret that the contents of that beer keg was non other than a clear branvin that has been an absolute success since 1879 - then you might have more than a destroyer paying a visit !

Thank God you don't keep Scotch in there !

Richard

Hi Steve,

Far from certain but is this not the copy of the Bounty?

If it is, I bet Capt. Bligh would have loved the twin screws she is fitted with!
