It is HMS Pickles

After the battle of Trafalgar, a fast little sloop named HMS Pickle carried the dispatches concerning the great victory and Nelson's sad death.

I spotted her last year sailing up the English Channel, its surprising how small she is, but she is lovely site under sail

I have a few more would you like to see them

You're a napoleonic crewman off LeFrogue and you're having a beer in the pub with your mates after a hard day of broadsides and grapeshot. How bad would you feel when you have to tell everyone you have just been clouted by a pommie crew off a boat called, the......PICKLE?!

Hi,

This one I believe I can solve. It is the Russian barque Sedov. She was built in Kiel in 1921 as the Magdalenea and eventually found herway to the Soviet Union as part of the war reparations. She was renamed Sedov after the explorer Georgy Sedov

Nice idea with these "competitions".

Let me add one of my own....the name of this ship please, in which I saied about 15 years ago? The national flag flying at the stern should be a good guide

Hi Steve,

Spot on!

The navy has two of these, Gladen and Falken. this is Falken.

They are steel hulled vessels, grossly under-rigged and based upon the design of the fishing schooners of the Grand banks. Despite being under-rigged, I once was doing 8 knots on Falken running ahead of a full storm without a stitch of canvas set.

Anyone any other interesting ships to identify?

Aye

Stephen

Hi Steve

Another one for you

This was used as a setting for a recent TV series?

It is up for sale at the moment for £3.000,000.oo GBP

Wouldn't mind the boat but the crews wages would be expensive.

This is one of my favourite piccies!!

Good Luck

Steve

Hi,

At a guess, I would say that she is H.M.S. Bounty. Am I right?

Anyone out there got more puzzles to solve. If not, I will dig out some more pics.

Aye

Stephen
