I am a bit bored of the "sail around singlehanded nonstop before getting off diapers" competition, so I have come out with ideas of other kind of world records.

What is your record in these categories? What category would you add?

1. Looooooongest time. The winner is the one who spent more time sailing around. Only those days count when the boat on water and you are on the boat.

2. Looooooongest route. The number of nautical miles before crossing your own route.

3. Greatest number of hops. The winner is the one who have made more stops. Any mooring or anchoring counts, even more instances in the same day, if they are in a different bay/marina.

4. Greatest number of crew. How many crew did you carry? Day trips, charter and tall ships do not qualify.

5. Longest singlehanded. Obviosly we have to have a singlehanded category. The greatest number of nautical miles of sailing around while a crew member on board who can use only one or zero hand. Broken arm, disability, baby under 6 months and seriously unskilled members all count. Pets with missing legs and lizards with missing tail do qualify. The boat have to sail around, but it is not required to be singlehanded all the time, so babies are allowed to grow up, members to obtain skills, broken arm and missing tail to heal

You mean Reid Stowe? I thought he was a real nutcase, but I've got to hand it to him, he stuck it out. 1,152 days at sea, the last 806 all alone. Of course, staying that far away from land all that time is pretty great, nothing to hit. Still, it was an accomplishment, and he does't seem to be out and out bonkers after all that time alone. Better him than me.

Reid Stowe, 1152 days at sea

On day 347, his partner apparently left the boat - did she swim? Where did she get off?

She was lifted off by helicopter ("medical emergency" was the call although she was later diagnosed with morning sickness and now has a 21 month old son) and flown to Perth, Western Australia. She took a plane from there back to New York.

Congrats! to the happy new family. I'm glad that he made it--completing his trip successfully after such a rough start. Lots of bad press and hateful things about his travels have been said. I'm just happy for him that he achieved his goal. And, he has a new son to get to know

He did sound kind of bonkers in the interview. And after getting his "partner" pregnant, then having her airlifted off and remaining at sea for TWO MORE YEARS instead of watching his son take his first steps, etc. well, I would call that kind of "bonkers" too....

And how about Donald Crowhurst? The guy who sailed around in circles for months while claiming he was winning the round the world race? I guess he was kind of bonkers, too.

Certifiably so in his case I believe. Still, he did produce some navigational magic in working his sights backwards.
