Somewhere out THere

Sometimes you read a post that is interesting and either reply or read others reply. Then you forget about them, until something jogs your memory.

I remember a year or so back “Gwen” wrote about being “on the Beach” ...cannot remember the rest of what Gwen said ,however the words came back because of a film made here in Melbourne called “ On the Beach” starring Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner.. (Neither of whom had complementary things to say about Melbourne.) But that’s beside the point.

The film was being shown again and it reminded me of the "Gwen” posting sometimes you wonder what ever happens to people who post on this BB…. Does anyone know what happened to Gwen..? Did she go sailing as planned..? Can you remember?

Tia,

Don't be too impressed. The dear man's memory isn't half as good as he'd like you to think it is. I'm still on the beach (or the bank, perhaps) at the north end of Mississippi River, with winter coming on, but I did buy a boat, at least.

Tia

Well I am confused…just one question and Gwen pops up

How about telling us Gwen what your sailing plans are and why would you want a boat on an ice filled river/lake... that must be hell

Gwen for your info. Tia and I are used to sailing in SUNSHINE .. All year round, if we decide to head north in the southern winter, which most of us do at some stage of our lives..

Where are you in OZ Tia and what do you sail? Of course you have to remember I am old enough to remember “On the Beach” being made…. That was why I remembered Gwen’s posting… I am sure I will remember yours as “Tia Maria” was once a favorite drink of mine.. So don’t worry about the witty or literate post.. Just post so that we can all enjoy your writings.. You too Gwen

no ...but I am a fiercely parochial South Australian so as long as we whip the vics I'll barrack for either .... AFL only ! I guess that puts paid to the likelihood of getting an invite aboard your boat!!! I crew on a 43 ft farr racer in our local waters (foredeck) and am about to cross the atlantic on in this year's ARC so am in "hybrid" mode between crusing and racing.

As for sunshine.... where is it? (I'll still make a bet we've had more than Pt Phillip Bay though!)

Tia....I have been known to talk to South Australians.. but only in small words…I know you on meeting, have to say “ what school did you go to “ .where do you live. ? I know Balfours make a cream bun, (forgotten the name) but like them….

No invitation to sail with me..only because I have sold my 36’ van de stadt and now have to rob a bank or win the lottery to buy my dream 70’ er for a 4 year world cruise. Will let you know when either happens.

Presume you sail out of RSAYS.. Nice place. Did a delivery out of there once and was treated well by the club.

Why not write up on the ARC when you get back. I am sure JeanneP would love to publish your thoughts and experiences. I sure would like to read about that event

Tia .. You don’t know what sunshine is till you come to Vic and sail on Pt Phillip Bay.

I should add that my posting about Opening day was related to me driving our Rescue Boat (34’… 2 x 175hp Cummins motors)

Keep away from that Adelaide water…. Makes one ..well you know

Get in line to win the lottery... here's a deal.. the first to win and buy their boat is under an obligation to invite the other. I sail here out of the Cruising Yacht Club... most racing boats sail out of the CYCSA these days. The facilities are more modern (interpret that as more people = more parties) than the RSAYS and the CYC conducts the best racing programme. Should you ever pop over the border the CYC is a fine place to head to - happy to show you around and can even translate your melburnian accent into refined speech with ease.

If you'd like to hear about my ARC experience then keep your eyes peeled for the January or February edition of Australian Yachting. For some reason the editor also agrees with you that the tale could have slight literary merit and has commissioned me to write about it.
