Here is a photo of a French yacht that went on the reef in Chagos Archipelago 6 weeks ago.

Keel joint opened up on steel yacht.

Royal Navy came and collected crew, flew them home from Diego Garcia

As a result of this incident, the BIOT High Commissioner, is reviewing the requirement for yachts to carry wreck removal insurance, environmental damage resulting from wreck, and repatriation insurance. Currently a repatriation from the BIOT will cost you ~10,000$US

Is this a case of being there at the wrong time of the year and all in his wake will suffer the consequences?

I don't think so! Unfortunately the report is 3rd/4th hand of which I am not able to verify facts etc.

I will be speaking FCO London re. new regs etc . I think it was on the cards - as recently a requirement was set out that visiting cruisers MUST be totally self sufficient etc......
