Heard of a new Marina in Kuching supposedly just before the bridge. Has anyone got any info about it? A search in Google Earth did not show anything that might look like a Marina.

Noted : the video doesn't reveal much other than water running past the pilings.

Where exactly is this marina ???

The new Kuching Marina is on Sungai Sarawak, approximately 12 miles upriver.

Not officially open yet. As of today still FOC.

Water and electricity available and showers / toilets available during office hours.

Transport to town can be a problem unless you hire a motorbike / car or hitch a lift.

No facilities nearby except restaurant in adjacent Borneo Convention Centre.

Link below to a Google map showing Marina and location of Check In offices.

Thanks for the update, the map doesn't show much but I guess it takes a while for update on Google Earth. There is always the river to anchor...

Marina is located at 01° 33.5' N, 110° 24.3' E

Attached picture shows the marina & marina building, looking upriver.

The marina is split into two sections, 1 entered from up river the other from down river.

11 berths in each section. Very shallow water on inner berths at low tides.

As well as the strong currents the marina is exposed to the wake from passing freighters / express ferries etc.

Check in / out is at the locations shown on the Google map link.

Thanks so much" I presume "1 entered" is a typo for one 'entrance'.

Without knowing the depths, would you suggest that drafts of 2 metres + should only go in at high tide or send a dinghy in first ?

Plenty of depth especially on high tides (up to 6m tides here - hence the strong current).

Only concern is the inner (shore side) berths on a very low tide

Ian thanks for the clarification - all the info very useful for our CruisingWiki,

Just the type of 1st hand data that makes for accurate navigation. The present cost of around $6/day/elec/water for a 12m boat nothing to be sneezed at!

Update on charges for Kuching Marina.

Marina is still free as charges were not implemented due to administrative problems.

Kuching Marina have resolved their admin problems and are now charging.

Rates are still RM2.00 per meter per day.

Payment is made to the Harbour Master on checking out.

I think that works out at around US$125.00 per month for a 40ft sailboat - if correct it must be the cheapest marina anywhere!
