Laura Kennedy and sometimes crew aboard Andunge, my 22' Westertly Nomad

Currently sailing the Sea of Cortez and am hopefully headed for Valparaiso Chile before year's end.

Information about Andunge can be found at:

http://www.geocities.com/sabakiboy402/Andunge.html

Information about sailing and myself can be found at:

Andunge is my second boat. I have been on board her for a little over a year. She is engineless, minimally outfitted, and I intend to circumnavigate aboard her.

My first boat, was a 1966, full keel, 28' Abbott.

That boat sailed great and I enjoyed her for a bit over 10 years. That said, she was a complicated nightmare in my opinion. Her systems needing constant maintenance which I was unwilling to humor any longer as I would rather be sailing. Hence the purchase of a new boat that is so simple that she rarely requires anything other than someone's presence to enjoy her.

Big believer in the Go Simple Go Now philosophy.

That is my gig in a nutshell.

Thanks again for the great board.

Hi,

I was interested to read about Andunge and curious about the name. Andunge means duckling in Swedish - any connecetion?

And, by the way, there is a beautiful Swedish boat class called just Andunge. They are open, double-ended, keel-boats designed by a gentleman called Thorvald Gjerdrum who was a naval archetect at Uddevalla Shipyard on the west coast of Sweden. A photo of one of these lovely boats can be found at http://home.swipnet.se/svenskandungeklubb/...lder/s75web.jpg

Happy voyaging,

Stephen

Dear Laura

I must say I admire what you are doing with your Westerly Nomad. I live in Holland and am ready to buy one myself for about 2000 euro. A bargain i would say. She has a volvo penta 1cyl. you wouldn't like. Complely fitted with all sails and so on. I intending to maintain her with a low budget and have lots of sailingpleasure with my 2 kids and her.

I am curious about her sailing abbility's. I think without sai she has a big wind cathing surface. Did you experience that? [when she 's noet under sail i mean]

Hope to hear from you and Andunge.

Thanks and "Goede vaart"
