Hi everybody,

I´ve anchored up for good and I´m now a quay side sailor and too old to do anything - but raising hell now and then.

I have a past as a stevedore´s foreman, merchant marine officer, port captain and is a lazy pensioner since 1988.

I had a small motor sailer, a Medusa 25 named "La PALOMA", for 23 years and sailed her in the western Mediterranean, mostly in Spanish waters.

Back in 1984, my wife and I sailed from Stockholm, Sweden to our new home port, Moraira in Spain, through the canals in Germany, Luxemburg and France. A wunderful trip, which took us 7 weeks.

Our last long trip was around the Iberian Peninsula, "La Ronda Iberica", in 2004.

Start in Moraira, through the Canals Midí and Gironde and along the Spanish and Portuguese Atlantic coasts, through the Gibraltar Strait into the Mediterranean and back to Moraira. Also a wunderful trip that took us 3 months.

My sailing life ended in 2005, when La Paloma stranded on Ibiza in a sudden storm. Since then I´ve been grumpy.

Saludo a todos.

Don Quijote del Mar.

Welcome aboard - thanks for the good introduction.

Our friendly "crew" will soon have the "grump" out of you. With all your experience I know that you have much to offer here and I look forward to your posts.

Welcome.

Don Quijote del Mar. ¿Dónde están los molinos de viento del mar?

Welcome aboard!

You mentioned your re-positioning from Stockholm to the Med. Does this make you, like me, a Swede living in Spain? Incidentally, our backgrounds are somewhat similar. I too am ex merchant navy deck officer and coast guard officer. Done some time in the navy too and now working in a more administrative field although very much connected with the sea.

Wherever you come from you will be well received by your shipmates here. Relax, have a tinto or two with some tasty tappas, join in the banter, tell a yarn or two and feel at home.

Aye // Stephen

Stubborn & Grumpy,

Thank you for putting a smile on my face. I read the title to your thread, and a smile spread quickly across my face. It seems I have a scowl on my face many hours of the day. With all that is going on financially in the world. I am troubled thinking when I will get my 3rd chance to slip my vessel's lines, and sail freely again....WELCOME & thank you....i2f
