Default Austrailia entry requirements for a sail boat

Does anyone know what the requirements are for sailing into Austrailia with a sailboat from the USA. I have heard that it is very expensive but never seen the facts. Is there a website that can help with this?
Thank you,
Bryan

All the requirements are in our associated wiki:

Australia - a Cruising Guide on the World Cruising and Sailing Wiki

Plenty of Aussies on here, if you have any more questions don't be afraid to ask!

Most USA vessels can get a 1 year vistors visa which can be extended to a maximum of 3 years if you maintian contact as to location of your vessel within Australia every 90 days by email. At the end of the visa, the vessel must leave the country or pay an import fee of ( I believe 10%) of estimated value. It also requires that the refrigeration be inspected by a licensed refrigeration specialist to certify that the system meets Australian specifications. ALSO, if you own a wooden boat or a vessel deemed high risk of termites, you will also be required to have the boat inspected for termites at the end of the first year.

What is the turn-around period on the vessel returning to AU after the 3 years. For example, at extreme, can your boat be there 3 years, go elsewhere for 3 months and return for another 3 year w/o paying import?

I have been told...thus second hand info...that once your boat has used-up its alotted 3 years, it can't return without being imported. Once again, I have not confirmed this information.
