Default Boating lady says hello from Key West!

What a wonderful group to find! I'm from the Great Lakes (USA), & am in Florida Keys on my boat working on writing projects. So busy working, haven't sailed lately, so its thrilling to read posts from all over the world and learn new things.

hello! Where are you anchored/docked in Key West? We're out in the mooring field west of Fleming Key. Perhaps we will see you around town? At the moment i'm visiting family in Kansas, but my captain is aboard in KW. i'll be down there in a few weeks.

LeeWay, I've recently heard the mooring field in Key West is just so-so. Not well protected from winds/fetch. Is this true? What have been your experiences there? Thanks

We've been in the mooring field for about a year and a half with no problems, although boats around us have broken loose and drifted into the shallows around Fleming Key. Guess it depends on how well your mooring is set. It's true that we are exposed to western winds, but that's the only direction from which we're not sheltered. Little issue with fetch. Those boats further west of us, around Wisteria island, are definitely more exposed than we are.
