Default Cheers

Just bought an old Tartan 41 in need of major TLC but basically in fine shape - kind of like the new owner.

She's a bit of a race horse. Designed by Olin Stephens with an under body that reminds me of the 12 meter, Intrepid; the only 12 to win the cup twice - I believe. I first saw the design as a kid in the SORC and I have been in love with that boat ever since - I borrowed the essence of that from a scene in Citizen Kane.

The goal is to fix her up and sail to Pitcairn's Island - something I have wanted to do ever since reading The Bounty Trilogy around the same time the T-41's appeared on the scene come to think of it. I picture myself standing at the entrance to Christian cave gazing out at the Pacific and drinking a cold Foster's (oil can) and wondering what the hell was he thinking. I have funny feeling that he was probably thinking something similar to me when I decided to buy the boat. I just hope I don't see allot junk like cigarette buts, and "Kilroy was here" written on the wall.

I hope to make a few new friends and also obtain some good ideas on restoring an old glass boat and please contact me if I can be of help or if you need to bounce an idea.

Cheers,
Tom

Enjoy your new boat! Also, enjoy the forums here--look around, ask questions where you want and post where you can.

Fair winds,

Congratulations, Tom!

I found this image with the principal dimensions here:

That’s a really beautiful design. Keep us posted on the work you do on her.

May you always have a handsbreadth of water under your keel.
