Default Greetings!

Hello there,

I wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves - Jeremy and Erika here from S/V Cerulean (based in Marina Del Rey). We just bought our second sailboat last year, and have spent the last 7+ months refitting/upgrading here to take down on the Baja Ha-Ha in October

Very exciting to be onboard, and working towards the dream of releasing the proverbial 'dock lines' and going sailing!!!

I have incredible support and partnership from my Wife, she just doubts herself too much (working on that!!!), so with time on the water and confidence building experience, I know she will continue to excel. We graduated from the Steve and Doris Colgate Offshore Sailing School "Fast Track" to sailing course in March of 2010, and have loved sailing locally/on vacation ever since. Now, it's time to truly go voyaging and test out the vessel and ourselves!

Note: I've taken 2 Alaska Eagle offshore trips (Hawaii > Tahiti & Antigua > Panama City) so I've got lots of crew experience, now it's time to get CAPTAIN time

Thanks again and we hope to contribute to the community.

Best regards,
Jer

Your wife will gain confidence as you aquire sea miles. Communication is the key to a successful sailing couple. If something goes wrong, which it will, talk about how you will prevent it from happening again rather than whose fault it was. My husband and I learn something new about our boat and each other every time we leave the dock.

As Mate1860 above points out, experience and communication are the keys.

A few people have found my blog entry, "Women at the helm", helpful. A yacht club in Australia even copied it and put it on their website. It's not terribly profound, more of "you're not alone" for women new to the sailing/cruising life.
