Hi Folks,

I'm in Gisborne NZ and have the dream of going cruising with my wife, Donna. We are between kids and grandkids at the moment so it is a good time to go for it. I purchased an Hartley 32 Ferro called Obelix which has been built in Denmark and sailed here to NZ. She is sweet and fair, my enormous respect to the people who built her but now needs a fitout basically back to the sole. I've fitted an Arona 22 hp diesel and some electrics, new bedding, water tankage, fuel tanks. I think I would like a minimalist setup but Donna's talking of a fridge so we are on the way up already.

We thought cruising about the north east end of the north island of nz would be a gentle introduction to the cruising lifestyle, after which, we can then head off to the islands or Aussie.

This is early days as I still need to sail her around the east cape from the Mount to Gisborne and then refit her. I guess a couple of years before we are ready.

I guess this forum is a great example of how friendly cruising folks are so I can't wait to get out there amongst you.

Kind regards

Pete.
