Default Howdy!

Hi everybody,
I am a long-time reader and poster on other sailing sites, and finally decided to join this one. I currently have a Catalina 36, which I love. However, I would like to sail to the Sea of Cortez, and then over to the South Pacific.

I know my C36 will do Mexico with no problems, but I am leaning towards trading up to a more "Bluewater" capable boat for the SP trip. So I will be reading the information offered around here and asking questions.

Cheers, Bill

Gooday Bill - Good to see you've chosen to join us. As an older long-time yachting person - I'm interested in your assessment of "trading up" to a more suitable yacht. What are you leaning towards All the time remembering that it's not the size (of the dog - in the fight) that counts - when the ultimate challenge - is in your face. It's often the ability of those on board to 'allow' the yacht to perform to its best without the added handicap of 'the nut at the helm' - or so a very wise older experienced yachting person told me about 40 years ago - & I've found - so far - he got all that correct.

Wishing you many grand adventures, fair winds, sunny skies & cold 'sundowners' at the end of each successful day of sailing fun. Ciao, from down-under james (an ex-pat Canuck)

Hi James, thanks for the welcome. As far as trading up, I have looked at a lot of different boats. The two I keep coming back to are the CSY 44 and the Gulfstar 43 or 44. They are older, but very solidly built with pretty good performance, and sea manners.

Cheers, Bill
