Hello all,

I am a newbie and glad I found the site. Looks fantastic... lots of reading, lots of adventure, lots of new ideas. I am fairly new to sailing. I am a diver and I have been on boats and in the ocean for more than half my life, but this sailing across the top of the water started last June when I took a learning vacation with the family (hubby, two teens) in the San Juan Islands where we all did our ASA keelboat, cruising, and bareboat.

Now the ideas are brewing. We did do a charter in BVI last Jan...so, I guess we have began the cruising quest. I look forward to learning much more in Navigation, systems, and geography. And, looking forward to Open Ocean...I think. Sounds a little scary, but only one way to find out. I am hoping to jump on as crew for some part of the Baja Haha. That is the next step toward learning more about Coastal Passage.

Thanks for having an interesting site and cheers to safe sailing! Kaethe

Welcome to the cruising life Kaethe. I'm sure you will learn as much here as I do.

If you're looking for a crew spot, the skippers are reading the Crewfinder sections so best you make a post down below so that they will find you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome. I have been reading a lot about the Yachtmaster class series. Is there something comparable in the US? How would the ASA, US Sailing or Coast Guard certification compare. It sounds like it goes further than the "Ocean Passage Maker"?

Kaethe,

Just how does one pronounce your name?

Second, look through the crew ads in Latitude38. Many times there are last minute dropouts, or run an ad yourself. There is still times to post your own ad in the Lat38. You can always show up in S.D wearing a t-shirt CREW POSITION WANTED!
