We have the Barracuda but it is not quite heavy duty enough for our sails. Having said that--we have really really heavy duty sailcloth 11, 12, and 14 oz. I upgraded the machine to have a "Monster" hand crank (sold by Sailrite) since all the Sailrite stuff fits the Barracuda. I also talked with Sailrite about getting a Sailrite machine (and just selling my Barracuda). But--the very nice folks at Sailrite pretty much said that their machine wouldn't do what I needed either. It all has to do with the zig-zag. Easier to go through many layers with straight stitching. So, we either need to get a heavy duty sailmaker's machine (with zig-zag) or a heavy duty straight stitch machine (cheaper). At some point I'll sell the Barracuda (since I have two machines right now--an old Singer and the Barracuda) to someone who is really thinking about canvas sewing not heavy sails!

Good luck in finding something suitable for your use.
