One of the biggest dangers (especially underway) is the risk of burns from hot drinks when handing these up into the cockpit.
I made a wooden tray with 4 inch high sides and non-slip sheeting glued underneath to hold 4 of our mugs snugly. If only 2 hot drinks/soups were made below, we still passed the tray with the 4 mugs inside - two filled and two empty. The snug fit of the 4 mugs and the high tray sides drastically reduced the risk of the person below, who was handing up the drinks, from getting burnt from a spill.
At night (for the night watch), we placed this tray (with 4 mugs) on the sole of the cockpit and a filled thermos nearby to make a hot drink.
We fortunately suffered no "burns" in five years.
