Kerosene stove owners- how do you preheat your burners. I'm looking for the little alcohol dispenser with the funny curled tube- mines over 20 years old now, repaired twice with fiberglass- it has sure been handt but can't find it anywhere.I think we are the last of a breed of kerosene stove users that has gone to propane. Thanks, Mary

Hello Mary,
Contact :-
DEFENDER
They may be your best start.
Another way to fill the burner alcohol cup - with alcohol, is to get yourself a hypodermic syringe
with an extra long thick needle - bend the needle enough so that it can be inserted easily into the
cup. By reading off the cc's (ml's) used to fill the cup, thus ensuring that one doesn't over fill.
When finished filling, place a cork on the needle.
Richard

A good alternative but, ditch it overboard before cruising through Malaysia. You don't want to start explaining it's use to a grumpy customs official in some countries.

A simple remedy to a very unlikely issue - is to file off the sharp point

How about an Irrigation Syringe? No needle in its tip. that's what we used to refill the hydraulic fluid in our old autopilot on SV Watermelon. New boat has an easier access.
Another option might be a turkey baster? A plastic one you could see the level of alcohol, and you could fit a smaller nozzle on it.

Mary,
There are still lots of experienced cruisers who will use no other fuel except kerosene for cooking and heating! We just use a small squeeze bottle for the preheating alcohol. It originally had bug repellant in it, and has a short nozzle that rotates down to seal it off. In Madagascar rum is dirt cheap, so that is what we use in place of alcohol, smells great, and can even be drunk at a pinch!

Here's another option from a kitchen supply house. Fantes has lots of stuff that I've found useful on the boat. They're a small operation, don't send anything via mail, only United Parcel Service, but they have always come through for me.
It's a "flavor injector" - syringe and needle injector - large-bore: See Flavor Injector

Forget alcohol (unavailable/prohibited in some parts of the world) ... try preheating your parrafin/kerosene stove using a small propane/butane blowtorch ... it works
