Do any of you guys have references for Irish Cruising Guides that are useful for the Southern ports? I'm looking for good ones with charts, coastal naigation/ entrance notes, etc. Robert Wilcox's new "Southern Ireland Cruising Companion" won't be out until March 2009 (at earliest) and I'd like to spend the North American winter preparaing for a trans-Atlantic.

Hi Jerry

I'm based in Kinsale on the South coast of Ireland.

This is probably the place into which you will arrive from your trans Atlantic trip.

Firstly the Irish South and South West coasts are great safe cruising grounds with lots of safe havens and beautiful anchorages.

The West coast is a lot tougher.

Regarding sailing directions I have found "The South & West Coast" cruising guide from the Irish Cruising Club to be excellent.

All the necessary harbour info, weather services, tidal streams and so on are in it.

I'll be heading the other way in the next few weeks, for Florida, and if you wish you can contact me in February for any info you need
