Can anybody recommend a good marina on the west coast of Italy for wintering over? We are 49 feet (15 meters). We would like to be in a marina with good security because we plan to go home (to California) for about 2 months for the holidays. We're looking for someplace that isn't too remote because we would like to do some travelling in Europe while we are there, and would like to be relatively close to transportation options. We are considering Turistico di Roma in Ostia (near Rome), but have heard scuttlebutt that the security isn't very good. Does anyone have an opinion about that marina? Or a recommendation for another marina?

We wintered in Barcelona, Spain at Port Vell this past winter and it was very nice, albeit expensive. This was our first winter in the Med. and it sure is cold!! One of the things we liked about Turistico di Roma is that the electricity is included in the rate. We could run our heater all the time!

Thanks for any feedback,

Mike and Linda

We can recommend Marina Stella Sud, South Italy, close to Lamezia Airport. Safe, protected, English-speaking staff, low-cost airport near by. Located downtown in Vibo Marina, small sleepy South Italy town We have wintered our yacht there a couple of years.
