Warning - Captive Danes will die in an attempted rescue!

Any attempt to rescue a Danish family captured by pirates in the Indian Ocean will result their deaths — just like the four American sailors slain by their captors last week, a Somali pirate warned Tuesday.

The gloves need to come off now. No mercy, no quarter. Financial backers???? This is not some poor impoverished African but rather organised crime and as such should be dealt with deadly force each and every time.

The town to which the report refers was incorrectly given as Hul Anod.

The ambush took place on the north eastern entrance to Las Anod (pronounced Laascaanood)

in the Nogal Valley - peopled by the Darood clan. Click image for larger version

Las Anood is one of the best towns in Puntland - well laid out - many services - lots of vehicles on the roads, which you don't see elsewhere

(lat/long :- 8d 30' x 47d 20')

The accuracy of this report from Ecoterra via Sailworld has not been confirmed by any credible source.

#1. There are no mountains as shown on the map north of Hafun.

#2. The nearest mountains are the AHL MESCAT some 200 kms away on a bearing of 290 degrees. Between those mountains and the Hafun peninsula there is nothing but open grassland.

#3. The Ecoterra's website makes no reference to the hostage taking.

#4, The Ahl Mescat are very close to Bender Cassim ( Boosaasa) Puntland's northern capital.

The fact that the family was warned but sailed into the area anyway is very disturbing. All sailors need to take this seriously - especially with kids on board - what could they have been thinking?

As discussed previously - ransoms paid early on emboldened this new waive of piracy. It will take lots of pressure and coordination to get this situation locked down. In the meantime, yachts should consider these areas off limits unless they have a well armed escort boat by their side.
