My steel hull is loking rather dull and nothing I have tried gets it nice and shiney again.

Any ideas on:

1 a polish that might work (current paint is two part International)

2 where to get a good quality paint job in the Med at a reasonable price

In Finike, Turkey at present. Planning to explore west Turkish coast and Greek waters this summer, then winter 2008/9 in Crete

Whats wrong with the yard at Fineke? If it has a bad reputation (not saying it has) then give Kemer a call. Not sure you'll find a lower cost country than Turkey.

Good luck

I have had poor reports and personal experiences here in Turkey

I am still waiting for a 45 to 50 kg Bugle type anchor, ordered in October and promised for a two week delivery

A friend had his anchor chain regalvanised and it came back with the zinc in globules so parts of it were able to act as a rope in the Indian rope trick. When he got the links seperated, the steel was exposed where the lumps of zinc had been

An aquaintance had his hull repainted and it was so bad he - eventually - got it completely redone

In Bodrum I had a small portlight in the superstructure resealed and they broke the glass when refitting it. Their replacement is a slightly different colour and they cracked that slightly when fitting it. It still leaks as badly as when I started, but I was tired of the disco noise and left.

I was, before I arrived, under the impression that Turkey was a good place to have work done. My experience is the opposite. West European prices and Thai workmanship.

I have just bought some jib hanks from West Marine. Including transport to Switzerland, they were just over half the price of the identical parts in the shop at Finike Marina.

It is difficult to find yacht chandlers who take credit or debit cards. One refused an order of over US$2200 because he would not accept cash on delivery either.
