21.07.2009: 0030 LT: Posn: 01:17.94N – 104:09.24E, Off Tanjong Stapa, Malaysia.

Six robbers armed with long knives in a boat came alongside and boarded a product tanker at anchor. The robbers tied up the Master and crew members. They stole ship’s and crew properties. During the incident the Malaysian Marine Police boarded the product tanker and arrested five robbers. One robber jumped overboard and escaped.

The position provided above may be incorrect as it is on the Separation channel of the Singapore Strait - Probably the busiest piece of water on the Planet.

BRILLIANT.

A few less pirates on the seas is always a good thing.

The arrests were made by members of the Malaysia Marine Operations Force, formally called the Marine Police. If the piracy took place within Malaysian Waters. The "pirates' will be charged in terms of Malaysian law where the death penalty can be applied if during the commission of the incident, the pirates injured or murdered crew. If the incident took place in international waters - then International law should be applied - no death penalty.

Bring back the plank - Very few yardarms available.

One way or another, I hope they are kept off the seas for many years.
