Now the rule is when pirates are caught in the act (EXCLUDE the French and the Americans) they are patted on the head, told they are naughty boys, released with food and water and whatever else they would be happy to have.

The whole western world is crazy. We expect our marine forces to risk their lives, and we spend millions of dollars patrolling to prevent piracy and aprehend the pirates. Then just remove their weapons, give them provisions and set them free! They must think that we in the west, are complete idiots, and they are right! Replacing the confiscated weapons in Somalia, is no problem and very little cost. The argument, that if pirates are jailed in western countries, they will be entitled to remain in these countries , when released, is equally ridiculous. The solution to that, is simple, either execute them at sea, or jail them for life, with no parole. They then cannot claim the right to residence!

The piracy problem should be handled by mercenaries, paid for by the international comunity, with a substantial bonus for each pirate killed and vessel sunk. I know of "security companies", that would probably jump at the chance, and that way no individual country will be responsible. The policy should be: We do not pay ransom, we do not show mercy, and we do take revenge!

I have been cruising full time for 13 years, and tens of thousands of miles. Never has any navy given me anything. Perhaps I should become a pirate!

Bill.
